Most of us don’t particularly enjoy the cramped conditions involved with sleeping on a plane, but how about if your bed was in the cockpit and all the annoyingly essential equipment was out of the way allowing you to spread out? That would be more conducive to sleep. Just not flying. Well at the Jumbo Hostel in Sweden you’re boarding a plane for rest not travel, and it’s a journey bound for geeky kitsch heaven.

As well as being conveniently located for the airport this real, ex-working, 1976 PanAm jumbo, has 25 rooms with up to 85 beds – some of them bunks, an on board drinks and meals service, and even better, allows guests to try out wing walking. The nicest rooms are still in the upstairs first class section of the plane, or if you have a thing about in-air romance then you might consider the deluxe cockpit suite, which has its own bathroom and a panoramic view of the airport out the front windscreen. Passengers are treated to more than the usual comforts of the air, thin blankets and food on trays – there are shared bathrooms, wifi and temperature controls, and as a special treat for true airport geeks, flat screen TVs with the Departure and Arrivals channel.

The staff in their retro airline outfits, matching the blue and orange decor that was the very height of 70's airline fashion, can even arrange for you to get married on the wing, if you’re into doing things on the fly.
