The Flamingo was voted one of the world's best hostels by lots of people who go to hostels, so that must mean something... It could be the location with makes it so popular – it's only about 50 metres out of Krakow's pretty main square on a street which, though short, also has six nightclubs and more cafe/ restaurants than you could visit in a weeks stay. Alternatively it could be the building, it's a 17th Century refurb with an all new interior designed with customer choice in mind – you can stay in a double room or in dorms for up to ten people. Or it could be the weekly list of activities that make Flamingo so popular – Mondays it's movie night with free popcorn, cookies and lemonade, Tuesdays you can line your stomach with a bowl of free pasta before you hit the clubs, Wednesday it's Polish breakfast morning (no idea what that entails...) and a drinkers Olympics of games in the evenings, Thursday you can get a proper home cooked Polish meal in case you haven't been looking after yourself enough while you've been travelling, Friday Flamingo guests get a free walking tour followed by free entry to three clubs – just in case one wasn't enough, Saturday is free cake in the common room and recovery Sunday is free fruit day – before you go out on Sunday night to start the week as you mean to continue. So it's the partying that got Flaming the votes then...

The free internet, free tea and coffee, free breakfast and free linen and laundry service are just overkill then. As are the rooms which look generous and airy, large home-y looking common room and huge kitchen.

Highly recommend this hostel!

This place hops like fleas at a rave! It is centrally located so the main square is literally two minutes away on foot. The main train station is a pleasent 10 minute walk through the old Jewish quarter. It's Located on the busiest street in Krakow so it's great for bars, clubs, restaurants, people! The hostel itself is really lovely and very colourful. The staff are all so cool and always ready to help with directions
