Italy’s Cilento National Park in the Campania region (think Naples) is the second largest park in the country, and has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. With its varied topography – from the verdant Apennines to the crystalline coastline – and its archaeological treasures, it is a perfect setting for exploration on horseback.

The Forno Antico agritourism located here has five well-trained mares for beginners or experienced riders, plus a stallion with the bloodlines of the local breed, the Persano Salernitano. Another area agritourism, I Moresani, boasts 10 riding horses and four all-day 30-kilometre itineraries of medium difficulty. Lodging in either, you will enjoy the culinary specialties of the region and good local wine, served with southern Italian hospitality. The Forno Antico also prepares special menus for diabetes, celiacs, vegetarians, and vegans. or
