Listed under Horse Riding in Petra, Jordan.
In a UNESCO-recognized world treasure like Petra, dependent on tourists, it’s hard to find a serious riding experience. Many locals tout short rides on “pure Arabians” but you won’t get a Lawrence of Arabia experience . . . not to mention what the poor horses have to undergo. Far more satisfying is a multi-day trip starting in Wadi Rum (another of Jordan’s fabled sights) and ending climatically in Petra.
Equitour, for example, have a 10-day trip with up to six full days of riding that can be organized ad hoc for a minimum of two people. You will have a full day’s riding in Wadi Rum to get used to your Arabian mount. During the trek you will sleep in tents or under the stars, canter through coloured canyons, and ride amid red sand dunes.
