Nara is an unassuming city, quiet, peaceful and often ignored. However, visitors who journey here will find that it actually feels more like a spiritual pilgrimage than a day trip during their stay in Japan.

While at first Nara might not seem that dramatic or intriguing, listening closely enough to the silence at the Buddhist monuments and temples means getting the story behind Japanese legacy and an insider look at culture within the beautifully preserved historic architecture. Nara might not be the capital city any more, but it has more buildings deemed national treasures than any other Japanese city and is ideal for discovering Japan’s heritage.
