Listed under Lovely Rural Hills in Ootacamund, India.
This beautiful, unspoiled region is in fact a range of mountains, the tallest peaking at around 2,650 metres. They are part of the vast Western Ghats, which stretch down the Western side of India, and boast one of the country's highest levels of biodiversity, particularly in Mukurthi National Park, which is protected as part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is home to Elephants, Bengal Tigers and the rare, endemic Nilgiri ibex. This area is also richer in plant life than any other comparable area in India and those parts which have been protected from deforestation for the creation of tea plantations play host to hundreds of rare species of fungi, ferns, flowers and mosses. A trek through will reveal wild dahlias, lilies and gladioli in between stunning panoramic hilltop views and patches of cool, shady forest.
