Box Hill overlooks Dorking and the North Downs of Surrey, but it's close enough to London to go for a quick drive out there to look at some rural loveliness before popping back.  The Pilgrims Way footpath runs just south of it.  

An important passage of 'Emma' by Jane Austen is set on Box Hill.
