...Stairway to the Sky

I always compare a buzzing life in the city to a hammer being nailed in to the head. Which is totally opposite to what the Cordillera Region in the Philippine Archipelago is like for me.  Where rural dwellings, tilled farm land and trees dominate the scenery. A ten hour bus ride from the city streets of Manila to this place and one can get off as the pedal breaks to a halt,  revealing something mesmerizing…the Banaue Rice Terraces.

Created more than 6 thousand years ago using minimal tools by the ancient Ifugaos, one can onlylook and wonder how?  Even little facts about the place kept me guessing until my head, one for example is that if you put one end of a terrace in to the other, it would encircle half the globe, such a tremendous feat!

The local culture is still very much alive and well, and travelers have a wonderful chance to experience such culture first hand - believe me it is something to try. From drinking the native rice wine to harvesting rice grains with the local people during harvesting season - which made me forget the problems I have back home, and thus worthy to be called as a “Stairway in to the Sky” since the place makes you feel like you're on cloud nine when you are there.
