This festival focuses on the Songi, or pine, mushroom grown naturally in the thick forests of Yangyang. The golden Songi mushroom is unusually soft with a chewy skin and a strong scent of its home pine forest. With prior reservation, visitors have the opportunity to get hands-on experience picking some of their own Songi mushrooms with an expert pine mushroom guide. As a visitor, you can also wander through the pine forest or run if you want in the half-marathon race that winds through the forest and along the Namdaecheon stream. Festival-goers are also offered a homestay program at the pine mushroom farms, a rare chance to experience something of this Korean rural lifestyle. Each year this festival takes place during late September and early October.
