Strawberry season usually lasts through the summer for most parts of the United States, right on time for a sweet taste in the sun, but for Plant City, Florida, the strawberry season doesn't end when the sun goes away. Harvesters continue to work in sunny weather while other parts of the country deal with the cold, and shoppers can find fresh strawberries from December through April. Florida's winter strawberries are planted in September and are usually harvested immediately after the Thanksgiving holiday. There are thousands of acres of berries in the state.

Plant City isn't the largest place, only 26 square miles, but it is the home of these winter strawberries and the setting of the 11-day festival honouring them in March each year. The Florida Strawberry Festival actually ranks among the top 30 festivals in North America. The small-town festival offers up some all-American charm, especially with chart-topping and comedy entertainment acts, attracting over 500,000 people.
