The world"s oldest commodities exchange, and, in fact, its origin. Now exhibition and concert halls, the design brought Amsterdam"s architecture forward from the standard imitation of gothic and renaissance styles. The large clock tower is the main and dominant feature; each of the other 3 corners hosts the statue of a figure central to the development of Amsterdam. The main hall is renowned for its paradoxical mix of simplicity with masterful decoration, and the largest hall in the city. The civil wedding ceremony between the Prince of Orange and Princess Maxima took place here in 2002
