The Open Championship has been held outside of Scotland and England only once; that occasion was here at Royal Portrush in 1951 when Max Faulkner triumphed. Constructed on the natural scaffolding of the sweeping seaside valleys and dunes on the north Antrim coast, the site is very dramatic and offers magnificent views of the White Rocks and wild ocean. Sand bunkers are replaced with grassy humps, the rough is tangled and thick and part of the course runs right next to the windy shoreline, making making for an arduous but rewarding game.
