The Royal Melbourne is considered one of Australia's most prestigious courses, which is why so many national and international events and championships have been held here. The west course is the one most lauded, having been designed by Alister MacKenzie, but it's the original landscape that many people credit as being the real reason the course is so good: the sandy land here undulates naturally and the backdrop of scrub and trees is superb. One of the courses most spectacular shots is on the par 5 4th where you come up on it blind then drive up over the hill onto the green.

MacKenzie's redesign of the course was based on the glory of St. Andrews and some of the holes here offer a myriad of shot and club choice options - which keeps it fresh even for the likes of Greg Norman.
