The Royal County Down Golf Links is one of the oldest clubs in Ireland. Of its two courses the Championship course it more highly thought of: in 2007 Golf Digest ranked it as the best golf course outside of the US. Old Tom Morris is responsible for the design and it was finished in 1889. It's an almost perfect links course, it lays out in front of you along the peninsular over looking often dramatic water, while on the other side the Mountain of Mourne rise up over you. Heather and gorse line the fairways creating a formidable rough between fairways perched on top of sand hills ridged with tussocky bunkers.
