The private, but world class Oakland Hills Country Club has two golf courses, the North and South, but it's the South course that has played host to all the major events that have been held here.  It's 18 hole layout was designed by Donald J. Ross.  Its signature hole is the par four 16th which takes two long straight calculated shots, once up the fairway and one taking a dogleg to the right up to a tiny green.  The five holes afterward are the closers and are known as the 'fearsome fivesome'.

The clubhouse is designed in the image of George Washington's home in Mount Vernon.
