With three 18-hole championship standard courses, scenic La Manga Golf Club was voted Europe’s top golf resort in 2001, 2003 and 2005. The Spanish Open, Spanish PGA Championships, Spanish Junior Championships, Ladies' Spanish Open and Senior Spanish Open have all been played here. All three courses have breathtaking views of the rolling mountains and green surrounds. The South course, remodelled by Arnold Palmer in 1992 has palm-ridged fairways, drives slicing between lakes and bunkers and a ravine at the 18th hole giving players that extra challenge near the finishline. The West course is set amongst pine woodlands. The architecture of the course is natural and follows the flow of the land, changes in elevation and all. Narrow fairways and fast greens, and possibly distracting scenery, mean that accuracy, rather than length, is the key to this course. The North course offers palm trees, lakes and barrancas (natural storm gullies), tighter fairways, water hazards and fast, newly designed greens. The key to the North is putting. Although prestigious, La Manga Club includes the Academy of Golf on the grounds for players of all levels to shape up their game before the pre-scheduled tee time.
