This course has an ocean backdrop of foaming waves running up and down on the rocks below, which has helped it become popular, but it also has an ancient golfing tradition: it's a natural links and people have been playing here since 1793. The undulating ridges that cross the course at what some golfers feel are strategic positions are natural, not some fiendish man-made device sent to try you. Kingsbarns is a near neighbour to the Old Course at St Andrews, and though it's relatively new – it was built in 2000 – it's still considered a fine example of a Scottish golfing links and potentially a future rival to St. Andrews. Guests are welcome.

The whole thing plays out at 7,126, often challenging yards.

This is links golf at its best. The firm and rolling turf with spectacular vistas, and golf as you have always thought it should be. Each and every hole is a thrill.
