This 27 acre public garden in pretty seaside resort St. Andrews by-the-Sea is a patchwork of land from the grounds of adjacent grand old estates. Some of the patches come complete with manor houses, old Acadian forests, mature cedar hedges and lots of flowers – something like 50,000 different varieties of plants.
Some of the original gardens have been kept, a cottage garden and a perennial garden and a rose garden, but some of the land has been given a more modern overhaul and made into gravel or therapy gardens and a Dutch Windmill, a third or the usual size, has been added and communities of alpacas, peacocks and pygmy goats moved in.
The garden is open from mid May through to mid October and there’s an admission free with an extra charge for a tour of the grounds by one of the gardeners.
