Garden of the Master of the Nets

Listed under Gardens in Suzhou, China.

The Garden of the Master of the Nets is a garden of extreme harmony and tranquility and very evident as all seems to go quiet when you enter into it. Designed during the Song Dynasty (960 - 1279) this garden is reputed to be the most well-preserved garden in Suzhou and should not be missed. It has three distinct sections and the 22 buildings afford you access to any part of the garden from each of their rooms. Each building has a purpose, whether it was for sipping tea, greeting guests, having a meal or painting, reading or resting.

This type of garden was built to relax and entertain guests in. It must have been something to see it being built.

Found on the world cultural heritage site list, it often remains open at night so that visitors can attend theatrical performances and enjoy night views of the garden. It is a garden like most Chinese gardens – it must be gone through slowly and quietly – to gather the essence of its being. Open year round.
