Exbury belonged to the Rothchilds, who paid for the huge collection of rhododendrons, camellias and azaleas that so impressed the British public, that it was for a long time considered the finest garden of its type in the UK. To support these beautiful flowering bushes there was built 22 miles worth of underground piping and three large concrete ponds.
As well as the flowering shrubs the garden's hydrangea walk, rock garden and sundial garden are spoken well of. Younger visitors may be more interested in the black swans.
