Listed under Gardens in US South East, United States.
This famed landmark put Winter Haven on the map when in 1936 Dick and Julie Pope took a cypress swamp and turned it into one of the most wonderful gardens that appeared even before Disneyworld or Universal. After undergoing some welcome and necessary changes the park is now bigger and better than ever and designed for the entire family to have fun. You will still find the ski show and Southern Belles that made it famous when I last saw it in the 80’s, but boy, has the botanical garden ever ‘bloomed’ since then. New things to see and do are the family rides, roller coaster and a new water park. It is laid out so that the children can go have fun on the rides, while you enjoy the quietness and serenity of the gardens. Once you are in the gardens, the noise fades and the birds welcome you as your stroll among the palms and plants.
