Jostedalsbreen is set in pristine, bright alpine country. The glacier itself covers a plateau high amongst the mountains and it’s glacial arms drop into hanging glacial valleys alongside the main fissure. Nigardsbreen is one of the smaller glaciers running off Jostedalsbreen and the most easily accessible. It is a place of smooth icy shapes, some seemingly impossible forming tunnels and holes which you can walk amongst. The surrounding alpine environment means that there is a greater abundance of wildlife, including bears, deers, foxes and many kinds of fish. This is a place that though close to civilisation offers ice climbing, which is a much more rewarding way to experience a glacier. Several of Jostedalbreen’s arms have retreated dramatically over the past 10 years.
