Grand Pacific Glacier is the widest glacier in the Glacier Bay National Park. It is full of debris and rock and blackened throughout after carrying it‘s load of rocks for 40kms. Margerie Glacier is much cleaner, it’s white cliffs, about 100m high look like they have been delicately chipped away at with hand tools and there are crystals of blue ice showing through the white chipped exterior. A cave has formed in the ice as meets the ocean which is very unstable and constantly suffers thunderous calving, an impressive site to behold from the deck of your luxury cruise. This entire region provides excellent glacier experiences, with both receding and advancing glaciers moving side by side. Only two hundred years ago the bay was part buried under ice and the shore line is changeable.
