Listed under Frozen Landscapes in Alaska, United States.
The trailed regions of Exit Glacier and the option of guided walks and lectures allows visitors to Kenai Fjords National Park a way to witness and inspect an active glacier. On the rocky retreating edge you will see flora gradually retaking the newly exposed landscape. Some of the ice in the Exit Glacier is run through with debris and looks like it has been part churned but there are still several smooth ice cascades and the blue heart of the ice can be seen through the fissured surface. The Exit Glacier is one of 35 glaciers which come off the Harding Icefield. It has began to recede more quickly in recent years and the differences are now noticeable from one year to the next. This is a commercialised experience, but it is comfortable and there are trails accessible to any ability so suitable for families and less adventurous types. It also has reasonable vehicle access.
