Golconda Fort was the primary defensive structure of the 14th century city of Golconda, formerly the center of Hyperabad. There are actually four separate forts and a variety of defensive structures, living quarters, and religious buildings within the complex, making it very self-efficient as its own little city. The fort held its own until the late 17th century when it was sacked by Emperor Aurangzeb of Mughal, but its ruins remain largely intact, even centuries later.
