Listed under Forts and Fortifications in Allahabad, India.
Built in 1583, this fort directly overlooks the Yamuna river, right near the point where it meets its more famous sister, the Ganges. It's not just the positioning that's impressive, when it was built its huge towers and galleries were thought to be the most perfectly designed fort in India. The construction is so good that it's still being used by the military, so only a small section of it is open to the public.
This fort is also the home of the Patalpuri temple and the Akshaya Vat, an ancient, ancient banyan tree that you're supposed to attain immortality by jumping from. Understandably there's limited access to the tree too.
