Listed under Food Markets in Malé, Maldives.
There are a lot of islands in the Maldives, but there’s a lot of ocean as well, and in that area of ocean there are loads of fish – and this is where they end up after being caught by fishermen from all over the archipelago. The Maldives are known for a relaxed pace of life – but that’s not quite the case here – this is a fish market like the best of them and all those chefs from the lux resorts are all competing for the tastiest morsels at the lowest price just like everywhere else! There’s action happening all day, with boats of all sizes coming in at various times with their catches, mostly of tuna, and people coming from all over to buy so as soon as they lay them out the fish are snapped up again.
As well as the fish you can buy a lot more from the stalls and shops along the market’s edge, including other local delicacies – dried fish and unusual vegetables and fruit.
