I took to the skies on a bright calm Victorian morning, frosty but still. The air was calm as I arrived at the take off site and the sky I was rising up towards was soft peaches and pinks. I was able to help unpack the bright canopy and despite my concerns that it would take a while to inflate it was less than half an hour before I was tucked into the basket and rising gently. The Yarra with it's neat rows of grapes and green ribbon of river shrunk beneath us and I had a clear view up towards the mountains and on the other side towards Melbourne, with it's neat garden suburbs and misty city centre.
Maybe I was lucky to have such calm day and a clear view but our pilot said that the cold mornings in this region means many days offer ideal flights like the one we took. For those who desire a bit of opulence the Yarra Valley offers a gourmet wine and cheese or champagne breakfast to follow…
