What is it about ballooning and Australian wine regions? The neat rows of the vineyards are certainly picturesque and resemble an earthy tartan when seen en masse, fringed in this case by the drier brown shades of South Australia's bushland an dense green pathways of river. This trip was in a larger balloon basket with eight other people and we were given the option to assist with the set up or to oversee the process, which took approximately 35 minutes. The morning was cold, calm and yellow coloured as I'm told are the best ballooning mornings in South Australia and we watched mist rise off the grape vines as we drifted quietly, surveying the flat, patterned surrounds. Sigh… It is certainly civilised to follow your dreamy balloon flight with a dreamy glass or two on the veranda during the afternoon after an early start.
