In the early morning light mist rises off the read desert, the sky is dark purple, sparse clouds beginning to be tinged white on their undersides and the sun begins to light up the gorgeous MacDonnell Ranges all shades of orange. Once airborne the kangaroos below look even more strange and the cattle loom large and heavy against the apinifex and scrub.

This is beautiful, remote country and to see it from this angle is truly unique. On a good day you won’t be alone in the sky over the Alice which only improves the sense of disjointedness you get from the contrast of the delicate balloon and the harsh environment. Glorious.
