Located on the eastern tip of the Dominican Republic, the waters of Punta Cana are undiscovered fishing territory, and brimming with hungry marlin. You can go fly fishing on the sandy coast, but deep sea fishing is the way to bring home the largest catch. Local fishermen suggest using ballyhoo or plastic lures to hook yellow fin tuna, blue marlin, and dorado, but if you don’t want to put up a long fight, smaller bait will attract barracudas and wahoo. Although some people have had luck on tiny boats manned by yahoos, the waters tend to get very rough and it is better to spend the day with professionals on a boat that is at least 33 feet. High season for marlin is in summer, but there is rarely a day when a fish isn’t caught.
