Halibut fishing in Homer: World Halibut Capital

Listed under Fishing in Alaska Northwest, United States.

Homer is famous for it’s historic halibut industry, one of Alaska’s most consistent fisheries. There are state wide catch limits of two fish per day, four in possession to keep you in check and many trips will catch their quota, but you can catch and release until you get the perfect two, and the polite thing to do is to catch no more than you can realistically eat - the bigger fish are the spawing ones. Averaged sized Homer halibut are around 30 pounds but 100 pound whoppers come up more frequently than you may think. Homer itself is a quiet fishing village at the tip of the pretty Kenai Peninsular. The season lasts between the end of April until the middle of September.
