Not all freshwater fishing is about trout and salmon. Fifty years ago the Thames was severely polluted; now it has been reborn as one of the finest rivers in the country. Pike abound in the weirpools and mill-pools and can give fantastic sport on big flies and plugs. There are huge chub, barbel, carp and perch to be found, but it's best to get expert advice from professional guides, who can be contacted through the web. The best time on the Thames is from late September to Christmas, when much of the boat traffic has disappeared.

Fishing the Thames

Thames is not only a sportsmans paradise for catch and release but also offers some of the best light tackle fishing around.

10lb test at the most topped with a 3 foot piece of Tyger leader will handle even the biggest of toothy critters here.
