The temperate waters and abundance of fish species makes Marco Island a good fishing location year-round. Snapper, king mackerel, tripletail, tarpon and ladyfish are just a few species that prowl the water, and although the presence of the different kinds of fish is seasonal, there is something to catch every month. Backwater fishing over reefs and wrecks is where the largest fish are caught, and the mangroves and calm waters create beautiful scenery. There are also popular offshore fishing locations, like the myriad canals which criss-cross Marco Island, spots near the two bridges connecting the island with the mainland, or any of the white sandy beaches. Whether using bait or fly, plug, or spin techniques, Marco Island has a nice environment, and lots of fish.
