Fishing in the Seychelles Islands

Listed under Fishing in Seychelles.

The Seychelles Islands are made up of 115 islands and atolls (an island of coral that encircles a lagoon partially or completely). The waters around the Poivre Atoll and St. Joseph Atoll are known for their amazing bonefishing. There are an average of 30 fish weighing 5-7 lbs. caught per day per person! The island natives consider a grand slam to be catching a bonefish, a pompano and a trevally all in one day. Add the barracoda and you’ve got a super slam! Night fishing and fly-fishing are also extemely popular. For those fishers who aren’t as experienced or who prefer a day of relaxed fishing, fly-fishing in the lagoons and shallow waters of the inner Seychelles islands provide plenty of entertainment. For those looking to work up a sweat just reeling the fish in, the remote waters by the outer islands host bigger, rarer fish. The Seychelles Islands hold a number of records from the International Game Fish Association for species caught around the outer islands. Species range from monster coral fish and blue marlin to shark and yellow fin tuna. Finding a boat to charter is not difficult- at least 28 fishing operators are found through out the islands.
