The Kingdom of Tonga is a chain of islands one third the way from New Zealand to Hawaii. It is the only group of Pacific islands never to be colonized. Atata Island is the most remote and largest of the offshore islands- the only evidence of the modern world is the Royal Sunset Island Resort which shares the island with a local fishing village on the northern end of the island. This resort sends out fishing boats manned with local fishermen chartering fishing trips for the tourists. The locals have been fishing for yellowfin, skipjack tuna, wahoo, mahimahi, and marlin in open boats for over 100 years so they know where the premiere fishing spots are. Along with fishing, the island has a wonderful snorkelling area so while some of the family is fishing, the others can explore the other wonders of the water around Atata Island.
