Haunting, eclectic and passionate, Roma music vibrates with the interwoven strains of many cultures and experiences, and the World Roma Festival, or Khamoro, honours the mystery and excitement embodied in it with a sequence of dance and music events as well as offering the opportunity to explore Roma theatre, art and literature for a week at the end of June. Clubs, pubs, squares and roadsides resound with stirring ballads and dances, but the festival also touches on the issues facing the global Roma population with a series of educational seminars and discussion forums, making the festival a celebration of cross-cultural acceptance and understanding as well as a spirited, vibrant party.
