The main events of this annual April festival are the grand procession of elephants wearing gold masks and carrying people with grand parasols and the fireworks. The processions begin in local temples and converge on the Vadakumnathan Temple, Thissur, where hundreds of people turn out to watch and celebrate in the courtyard.
