The Fantasy Festival is held every October in Florida, with events culminating in the biggest Halloween celebration in the world. By staging this event during an otherwise quiet time in the Florida Keys, the residents have made the most of the reliably fantastic weather and Key West is booming.
The ten or so days of endless events vary from the Goombay Bahamian Street Party to a Voodoo Luau, Irish Wake Party, Beach party and Pet Masquerade, while competitions include the headdress ball, epidermal arts, wet t-shirt star, best toga and celebrity look-a-like contests. The ultimate of these competitions is the Pretenders in Paradise™, where contestants are given a theme each year for creating costumes; the winners in the Professional, Amateur and Group categories stand to win from $500 to $2000.
Make sure you read the event rules or face the consequences...for instance, although there is an epidermal art contest, body paint DOES NOT constitute clothing and in Florida, nudity is illegal!

This person has never been to Fantasy Fest. It is certainly NOT a suitable event for children. Some of the activities are, but the bulk of the action on Duval Street is very Adult Oriented.
