The San Francisco Love Parade, or simply LoveFest, is a week long party that celebrates the amazing diversity of humanity, following in the footsteps of the world famous tradition that started in Berlin. The main event, a gigantic parade down Market Street, draws in tens of thousands of rowdy, love-crazed spectators, dressed (or not dressed) in outrageous attire and dancing to the wild music blasting from the elaborately decorated floats. Past float themes have included concepts like “NERG to Your Momma,” “Sex and Robots,” “The Space Cowboys,” and “The Purgatory Cruiser.” Dozens of artists from the Bay Area and beyond show off their skills with performances on the floats and at other city venues, entertaining the crowds with every sort of LoveFest friendly beat you can imagine. Music and dance are the vital elements of this intense festival which lasts all day and night, including the official after-party. Last year the dancing at Bill Graham Civic Auditorium lasted until 4 am, but the love certainly continued well into the next day at the unofficial after-after parties dispersed throughout the city. The event is highly anticipated by San Franciscans as an expression of their famously fun, diverse, and open-minded community.
