Hermanus, on South Africa’s western cape, is one of the worlds best spots (on land) for whale watching. On the route of the Southern Right Whales migration, Hermanus celebrates their return to the waters of Walker Bay in an annual September whale watching festival, held also to celebrate the beginning of spring.
In addition to whale watching, festival goers can experience an eclectic range of entertainment including cabaret, comedy and theatrical entertainment put on for the festival, they can also participate in the worlds only Welcome Wale Wave (a version of a Mexican Wave.).
The festival invites celebrity guests, speakers and chefs, who prepare a gala banquet to celebrate the crowing of the Prince and Princess of Whales and if you like sports there is also a the Whale Festival Half Marathon and the Whale Festival Golf Championship.
