No matter your religious beliefs, the Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve in St. Peter's Square is a humbling and inspiring experience. The faith of hundreds of thousands of believers gathered in mass is enough to overpower even the hardest of hearts. The gathered faithful are invited at the behest of the Vatican (contact the Vatican in advance for free tickets) and represent a multicultural mix of people from countries across the globe. To speak to them all, a multitude of world languages are used in the service and the Pope's Christmas Eve sermon is broadcast worldwide to over 40 nations. Those not wanting to take part in the ceremony should still make a trip to the nativity scene in St. Peter's Square appearing throughout the Christmas season. Like the Wise Men of biblical times, a colorful variety of gifts and offerings are laid before the child Jesus in the manger.
