Listed under Festivals in Avignon, France.
Orange is a real summer city, with its picturesque gardens, tree-lined walks and romantic, ruined Roman architectural gems. The Roman theatre is easily the most impressive of these, and after more than forty years’ restoration work, it became the imposing site of the Choregies d’Orange in 1869. Initially planned to honour the splendour of ancient Rome through music and theatre, the festival is now a celebration of opera of all kinds, and is extended throughout the month of August on an annual basis. Your ticket will entitle you to a sun-warmed, stone seat in the restored terraced amphitheatre, beneath the summer evening sky, watching a classic operatic tale unfold below.
