Seattle celebrates the September Labour Day weekend with its annual arts, music, comedy, dance and film extravaganza. Acts and artists from all over the world make up the three day program, entertaining an audience of more than 150,000 at both indoor and outdoor venues.

The festival takes place at the Seattle Centre and one ticket covers all the entertainment you can bear so the challenge is to plan what you really want to see in advance. The opportunity for festival goers to graze arts of all kinds from classical ballet to punk poetry and graffiti has been copied by other festival but first happened here in 1971.

Recent festivals have focused on the youth market and have attempted to break art ground and offer cutting edge productions and performances, so festival goers should expect anything. (The name Bumbershoot comes from an informal name for an umbrella, representing the festivals coverage of a myriad of art forms.)
