Listed under Festivals in Budapest, Hungary.
Of all Budapest's annual cultural highlights, this one is the greatest, opening the festival season with a marathon of opera, jazz, classical concerts, chamber music, traditional and contemporary dance and traditional Hungarian performances during the second half of March. Contributors are of an internationally high standard and perform at most of the city's available venues throughout the festival, so although the opportunity to spend a day watching three perfectly-executed, consecutive live operas is not to be sniffed at, it is equally unforgivable to miss the proud, melodic beauty of the Hungarian folk music, and there is plenty of both to be explored.
