Alongside the pretty Alpine town of Bregenz, with its meandering cobbled streets and imposing, old city wall lies the serene Lake Constance, and upon it, once a year, a floating stage supports an enchanting performance of one of the world's favourite operas. The sun slowly dips below the horizon to truly iconic musical accompaniment, while the audience watches from the shore. The spectacle is repeated nightly from mid-July right through to the third week of August, and it is almost worth going just for the views of the artistic set design silhouetted against the evening sky.
