Sabah, Borneo, is known for being an Eden-esque paradise of exotic plants and animals – home to giant rafflesia flowers, orang utans and delicate orchids in the jungles, and off shore an impressively colourful array of marine life. Sabah's skies and forest canopies are no less well endowed with life, more than 600 different species of birds live here, with more than 30 species totally unique to the area, which is why the region hosts a Bird Festival.

Most of the festival's activity takes place around the Rainforest Discovery Centre in Sepilok. There are lectures and workshops from bird related organisations with interests ranging from academic studies to bird watchers to wildlife photographers. There are also guided tours into the Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve to see the main, feathery, attractions close up.
