Norway’s oldest ski resort, Geilo is a friendly old girl with lots of gentle beginner and intermediate runs and old, charming and plush hotels. There are 20 lifts servicing only 39 downhill runs, so you don’t have to queue for long, and 220 kilometres worth of good cross country trails looping around the hill tops if you like to get off the main runs, some are even floodlit in the evenings.

Geilo also has three of the best snowboard parks in Norway with a kickin’ collection of pipes, jumps, rails and slides and the country’s biggest superpipe. So it’s not all quiet, family friendly fun – but a lot of it is – and all within a small space so everything’s really easy to move between.
