Unless you are an experienced diver, climbing aboard a submarine is the only way you can witness the wonders that lie a hundred feet beneath the Pacific Ocean, just off the Hawaiian island of Oahu. This densely-populated reef is home to myriad species of incredible sea life, and local operators here run excursions using some of the largest, deepest-diving passenger submarines available, providing unusually long trips of up to an hour and a half. Manta rays, turtles, moray eels, parrotfish, porcupine fish, octopi and even sharks and dolphins can be spotted from the windows, and the reef itself is blanketed in sponges, corals, shellfish and bright anemones, sea cucumbers and starfish. Even an hour and a half is barely long enough.
