They’ve adorned many a child’s bedroom wall and for many it is the first thing they think of when asked what they would buy if they won the lottery. It’s not until you see a Lamborghini in reality that you can really appreciate their beauty however, the sharp contours that have marked them apart since the company’s inception in 1963.
Although lacking the history of other pedigree manufacturers such as Ferrari, the Lamborghini factory and museum in Bologna is a warm, decent attempt at showing pride in the company’s relatively short history. The 1963 350GT, the first production model built by Lamborghini, is in attendance in a museum that is made up largely of company’s founder’s collection, something that adds a real warmth and family feel to a pedigree of cars that most can only dream of experiencing.
The second floor houses the racing cars the company produced in the 1980s and 1990s, and also concepts of where the company’s future lies but the most interesting feature has to be the window that shows the factory floor where the cars are being produced – the same spot where they’ve been made since 1963.
The museum is free and you're welcome to show yourself around - there are no guides, just Lamborghini employees associated with the factory. Opening hours are Monday-Friday, 10:00-12:00 and 14:30-17:00. Tours of the factory floor can be arranged but you have to book in advance for that, but for the petrolheads out there it is an opportunity not to be missed.
